On June 28, 2023, USCIS launched an online self-service tool to reschedule biometrics appointments. Previously, rescheduling of biometrics appointments could only be done by calling USCIS' 1-800 number.
To use the new self-service tool, you will need to create a myUSCIS online account if you do not already have one. Note – the new self-service tool cannot be used to reschedule an appointment that already has been rescheduled two or more times, is within 12 hours, or that has already passed.
Requests to reschedule can continue to be done by phone. Requests are not accepted by mail or by walking into a USCIS Field Office.
USCIS also updated their Policy Manual to include that a failure to attend your appointment or a failure to request a reschedule prior to your appointment may lead to your application being considered abandoned. If you submit a request to reschedule after missing an appointment, USCIS may use its discretion to reschedule the appointment for you. Discretion may be exercised depending on the circumstances and whether your case remains open with USCIS.
Appointment reschedules must show good cause for the change in appointment time. Good cause includes, but is not limited to:
• Illness, medical appointment, or hospitalization;
• Previously planned travel;
• Significant life events such as a wedding, funeral, or graduation ceremony;
• Inability to obtain transportation to the appointment location;
• Inability to obtain leave from employment or caregiver responsibilities; and
• Late delivered or undelivered biometric services appointment notice.
